Evaluation Question 3

3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Using a media institution to distribute your product has both it's positives and negatives as everything does, for example:

Positives:
By using an already well established company, your magazine will recieve and be well advertised to all major companies.

Money will be easier to get hold of, where as if you were independant, your finances may be strecthed thin.

Negatives:
The media institution may take your magazine and make it into something that you are not happy with and did not want.

They will take more of the profit than you, and will recieve more overall.

A company that may be willing to publish my magazine would be Bauer, as it doesn not publish any music related magazines, and it would be a good opening for them to make a profit and to also rival exisitng music magazines, such as NME and Q. However Bauer publish Kerrang!, which is another music magazine, however my magazine is mainly a magazine about all round entertainment, not just music. It would also allow Bauer to open up many opportunities to create other magazines aimed at the age range of 14-21.

For distributing my magazine, I would distribute them to the leading high street newsagents, such as WH Smith's and McColl's, as this will help with the sales. I would also distribute to smaller newsagents as this would help the circulation of my magazine spread.
