Draft Article.
Just over two years ago, three high school students decided to form a band that we’d come to know as Victory March. A few months ago, we caught up with Victory March and spoke about their band formation and rise in the music industry.
We start our interview with Paul Jones, lead singer of Victory March, who has just come into the room after being on stage. He walks in, shakes my hand and sits down on the sofa opposite me.
Hello Paul, How are you?
PJ: I’m not too bad thanks, how are you?
Good thank you, thank you for giving us the time to talk to you today.
PJ: No worries, thank you for coming.
Right then, firstly in 2008, when you formed, did you have any idea that you were going to be a hit?
PJ: No not really, I don’t think any of us did to be honest, we were just doing what we did because we enjoyed it, we had no idea we’d become a hit.
Did you know each other before you formed or were you put together?
PJ: We already knew each other from high school really and towards the end of high school we decided in a music lesson to form a band as we thought it would be a great thing to do.
Were you influenced by anyone to start your own band?
PJ: I and Peter (drummer) were and still are big fans of the Manic Street Preachers and Queen, and I suppose their style of music had some influence to us and the style of music that we create.
In 2009, you won the award for best album at the NME awards, did you expect to win this or was it a complete surprise?
PJ: We thought the album was good, but we never expected to win a bloody award for it within our first year of being a band, it was a real honour and we thank all our fans for voting for us.
Have you got a second album on the way yet, or are you going to put that off for a while?
PJ: We’ve started work on our second album which is titled “Fish in a barrel”, and we plan for that to be out around Christmas time.
We’ve heard talks of an upcoming tour around the UK, can you confirm this or is it just another rumour?
PJ: I can indeed confirm that we are planning to do a tour starting next year around the UK, we also know where we’re going to start it, but I’m afraid I can’t tell you that, you’ll just have to wait and see.
Are you sure you can’t tell us where you’re going to start your tour?
PJ: I’m sure, sorry you’ll just have to wait and see. However if it does help we plan to finish the tour in Scotland, but as I said “plan”.
“We thank all our fans for voting for us” Paul Jones.
Well I think that’s all we have time for today, thank you Paul for giving us your time to talk to us and good luck with Victory March and we look forward to the tours next year.
PJ: Thank you very much; it’s been good to speak to you as well. Thank you.
Victory March’s hit album “March for Victory” is available now in stores and online.
